SAINTGITS have received a grant from AICTE to conduct online Short Term Training Program for faculty & research scholars of various institutes and organisations in India. The generic area of proposal is "Electric Vehicle Technology - Current Developments & Research Interests"

The program is scheduled now in the months of August, September and October 2020 as per directions from AICTE. Below you can see the detailed week wise schedule.

MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

In transportation engineering, scarcity of fossil energy resources and the need for alternate energy option have lead designers to look for new and improved designs in electric and hybrid electric vehicle technology. Often, it is a challenge for engineers to design efficient and cost effective systems without compromising the integrity of the system. Electric vehicle engineering is a professional discipline which combines knowledge in electrical and mechanical engineering for the purpose of designing, quantitatively evaluating, predicting, measuring and improving vehicle technology.  The current developments and the research interests in the field are very much in discussion around every corner modern power system studies. A comprehensive picture of the state of art of electric vehicle technology concerning components, modules, systems for different types of classes of vehicles are already available and are expecting more to enter the market in a global scenario in coming years. Moreover, Government of India has clearly mentioned the willingness to invest in research and development of pollution free transportation using Plug in Electric Vehicles (PEVs). The major objective of this faculty development program is the dissemination of technical skill and knowledge in the field among academicians and researchers and thereby reforms our nation to adapt itself in the new era of vehicular transportation by its own developed skill. This training program intends to impart a general theoretical, practical and design background in the areas of Automobile in Electrical, Electronic , Power Electronic and Mechanical systems. The participants will be introduced to design system and their energy systems. Regulatory and policy issues etc. This program is expected to accelerate the ongoing research activities at various institutions and industries. Besides, this STTP will provide an opportunity for faculty and research scholars to have an interaction with nationally and internationally renowned experts in the area of electric transportation. 

EXPECTED OUTCOME

The technical programme will include the
state-of-the-art lectures, discussions, trainings, hands-on sessions on

  • Motor and their control for EV
  • Development of EV charging infrastructure
  • EV charging control and energy management strategies
  • Sizing of the drive system for EV
  • EV integration to grid (V2G & G2V) technologies
  • EV charge storage system
  • Current trends and developments in EVs
  • Drive Train design
  • EV Case studies

After successful participation in this STTP, participants will be able to engage in independent and group research activities in the area of electric vehicle technology. Participants will be able to update themselves with latest developments, research aspects & trends in the field of electric vehicle. Institute – industry interaction and inter-university collaboration in the field is one of the expected fruit after the training programme. Also, the participants will be able to gain knowledge in using the latest EV modelling and simulating tools like ANSYS, ADVISOR, DYNA etc.

The fact that, since this STTP is aligned with fulfilling the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020 announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, all the participants in turn the nation will be benefitted positively. This will also help encourage the Indian Automotive Industry to shift to newer, cleaner technologies so that it builds its future competitive advantage around environmentally sustainable products, high end technologies, innovation and knowledge. The institutes will able to open up their own EV research laboratories which could bring up multidimensional research outputs.
